NWOBHM Band Feature & Interview:

|
With just one 7" single ("Crazy Nights", Big Muff Records, 1980) BERLIN RITZ are one of those obscure NWOBHM-bands. Their music still was very 70s influenced and the term hardrock would fit better than Heavy Metal. We are happy that we got a statement from Harry Spooner! |

"We realised that there was a movement called NWOBHM entirely due to the NWOBHM Encyclopaedia by Malc Macmillan and as the band had a short entry it has created an interest in Berlin Ritz since then.I think that self produce vinyls and the independent labels were mainly due to the lack of support and interest for the big record companies. This forced many bands to do it themselves without any help from the industry. I think that NWOBHM was a style of playing that developed from the sixties/seventies bands such as The Stones, The Who, Small Faces, Led Zep etc.Berlin Ritz started as a vehicle to write, record ad play original material. The most important medium for NWOBHM bans of late 1970s/80s was I feel though word of mouth and playing gigs. I don`t think that NWOBHM has actually died, it still exists for many bands including Berlin Ritz." (Harry Spooner, Berlin Ritz) |
