The “All those Words” single is exciting for several reasons—first of all, it’s Brainstorm who, EP or not, are amazing. Also, it’s their fist-ever single. Plus, I found this disc completely by mistake while shopping for a Nightwish EP (I opted for this instead…ha! Take that, Nightwish!).
Anyway, as one might guess from the title, the single features both the album cut and single edit of “All those Words,” which is a gorgeous song. The single version is obviously a tad shorter and seems to be mixed differently—aside from more prominent bass at the beginning, we can hear guest vocalist Carmen Schäffer more clearly, and hell—she has a really amazing voice!
Track two is a cover of Judas Priest’s “Before the Dawn;” this surprised me—I almost would have expected Brainstorm to do an Iron Maiden cover due to Andy B. Franck’s vocal similarities to Bruce Dickenson. In any event, I’m thrilled with their rendition of this classic ballad—it’s very Brainstorm, but still captures the haunting sadness of Judas Priest’s recording. And, like the original, the synth rings out at the end; the melancholy stillness carries through to the first crushing riffs of the ensuing “Shades and Shadows.” I’m a little iffy about this song—I like the chorus, and the song isn’t bad overall, but I’m very glad it was exempt from “Liquid Monster,” as it’s less melodic and really wouldn’t have fit the album.
Next up is “(E.O.C) Cross God’s Face,” an incredibly track, recorded in 2001, but previously unreleased. This energetic blast from the past was a killer addition and will thrill all you Brain-iacs out there. Don't ask me what the hell "E.O.C" stands for, by the way. I haven't a clue.
There’s also a music video for “Doorway to Survive” (from “Soul Temptation,” 2001), which should please you and your CD-ROM. This EP is an awesome thing for any Brainstorm addict.

These premier league Power Metallers release a 5 track single as a taster for their forthcoming album ‘Liquid Monster’ (out 04/04/05).Most recently seen on UK shores supporting Nightwish at their sold out London show these Germans have upped their game yet again – their take on Metal has become unfeasibly anthemic. Part Scorpions rock, part prime era Annihilator, this release could see Brainstorm fighting Hammerfall for the Power Metal crown!

Deutschlands Vorzeige Power Metaller BRAINSTORM melden sich mit ihrer ersten Singleauskopplung "All Those Words" zum neuen Album "Liquid Monster" zurück. Wer die gut vier Wochen bis "Liquid Monster" physisch und psychisch nicht mehr durchsteht und dringend neuen Stoff von den sympathischen Schwaben braucht, kann sich nun einen kleinen Vorgeschmack auf das hohlen, was ihn bald erwartet. Insgesamt fährt die Single-CD "All Those Words" mit vier Songs auf, wobei der Titeltrack 'All Those Words' einmal als Albumversion und einmal als leicht geänderte Singleversion enthalten ist, die einen melodischeren Mix bietet. Die durch Frauengesang unterstützte Power Ballade mag im ersten Moment für alte BRAINSTORM Fans etwas zart klingen, verzichtet aber nicht auf die typischen treibenden Gitarren und Drums und baut ihre Stärken kontinuierlich aus. Gerade im Refrain kommt durch die weibliche, hohe Stimme ein bisschen Tarja Turunen Feeling auf, bevor das Lieb sich zum Ende zu einen starken Mitsingpart steigert. Mit dem JUDAS PRIEST Klassiker 'Before The Dawn' vom 78er Album "Killing Machine" steht dann sofort eine astreine Akustikballade an, bei der man sich sehr stark am Original orientiert hat. Ein sehr schöner Song, auch wenn die Urversion mit Halford noch einfühlsamer klingt. Aber genug der Gefühlsduseleien, denn mit 'Shades And Shadows' packen BRAINSTORM den Hammer wieder aus und schließen nahtlos an die Kraftpakete "Soul Temptation" und "Metus Mortis" an. Vor allem der Refrain wird jeden BRAINSTORM Jünger sofort mit der pumpenden Doublebass, der singenden Leadgitarre und Andy B. Franks hymnenhaften Gesang fesseln. Wirklich schade, dass es der Song nicht auf das reguläre Album geschafft hat. Aus welcher Schaffensphase der Band '(E.O.C.) Cross God's Face' stammt, wird beim ersten Ton sofort klar. Eine seltene Perle aus der "Metus Mortis" Zeit, die bisher nur auf der Japan Version des Albums zu finden war. Hätte eigentlich nur noch das Helloween Cover 'Savage' gefehlt und es wär ein Hammer Package geworden. Als Bonus gibt es noch einen Video-Clip zum Hammersong 'Doorway To Survive' des letzten Studioalbums "Soul Temptation", der mit allerhand Ausschnitten von der letzten Tour aufwartet. Wem ein Albumtrack in zwei Versionen, drei unveröffentlichte Stücke sowie ein Video-Clip noch nicht reichen, hier noch kleiner Tipp an alle Ladies: die Jungs gibt's auch schön im Video in Badehose am Strand zu bewundern. Wenn das mal Kaufargument sein sollte.

Germany’s finest power metal monster is back!
Vorerst mal gleich mit einer Vorab Single, die mit zwei non Album Tracks, einem unveröffentlichten Song sowie einem Video zu „Doorway To Survive“ aufmarschiert. Gut so, recht so, denn wenn sich eine Band jeden möglichen Support verdient dann BRAINSTORM! Spätestens seit dem Überflieger „Metus Mortis“ als eine der begnadetsten Power Metal Kombos etabliert, gehen die Mannen um Andy B. Franck nun als im April mit „Liquid Monster“ in die nächste Champions League Runde und beehren uns vorab auch erstmals mit einer Single Auskoppelung.
Was gibt’s also festzuhalten: Vorab mal die Tatsache, dass meine Promo EP nur zwei, der sechs Tracks enthält. Diese wären einerseits der Single Hit „All Those Words“, eine relativ eingängig und softe Power Metal Nummer mit gewohnt geilen Riffs, tollem Gesang, dem eh schon berüchtigt genialem Songwriting und gelungenen female Vox gegen Ende des Songs. Ein melodischer BRAINSTORM Ohrwurm, eine perfekte Single und ein weiterer Hammer aus dem Hause der deutschen VICIOUS RUMORS!
Weiters darf ich mich am JUDAS PRIEST evergreen „Before The Dawn“ berauschen, der durch seine zurückhaltend originalgetreue Akustik Interpretation nicht revolutionär scheint, aber in jedem Fall sehr authentisch, stimmungsvoll und mit viel Klasse rüberkommt.
Das war’s vorerst leider von meiner Seite, da man aber die Qualitäten von BRAINSTOM mittlerweile kennen sollte, darf man annehmen, dass auch jeder andere Ton dieser EP unverzichtbar klingt und somit der Gang zum Dealer des Vertrauens vorbestimmt scheint.
P.S.:
So viel kann und darf ich noch verraten: Diese beiden vorliegenden und eher gemächlich gehaltenen Tracks sind mit Sicherheit nicht bezeichnend für jenes unmenschlich geile Power Metal Album, das in Form des Anstehenden „Liquid Monster“ seit Stunden und wohl auch für die nächsten Wochen meinen CD Player blockiert!
