Remastered edition of New Eden's album coming in June!
Posted by: warlordtony on May 30, 2008 - 12:00 AM
Bands' News When it comes to power metal, it’s not easy to come up with an original formula that would conjoin pure heaviness, catchy melodies and top-notch musical skills. Fortunately, New Eden is one of these bands that manage to get the job done and deliver a prime selection of tasty riffs and memorable vocals. Metal Mind Productions presents the re-release of the group’s second LP, “Obscure Master Plan” which shows exactly how a modern power album should sound! The album, first released in 1999, is a power metal masterpiece, capturing the sheer essence of the genre and improving it with the addition of speed and progressive metal elements. The ten tracks included on “Obscure Master Plan” range from heavy metal anthems to thrashing monstrosities and progressive elegies. New Eden managed to capture the retro sound of 80’s heavy metal and confront it with a truly modern approach, backed with some amazing guitar riffs and impressive vocal lines. Easily comparable to classic releases by Iced Earth, Symphony X or Sanctuary, “Obscure Master Plan” is definitely one of the best US power metal albums of the 90s.

The remastered edition of the album will be available on 23rd June 2008 in Europe and 5th August 2008 in USA (via MVD). New digipak edition is limited to 2000 copies.

BAND BIOGRAPHY

New Eden was formed in Los Angeles in 1993 by guitarist Horacio Colmenares, known also from the band Steel Prophet. Along with Victor Vaca (vocals), Dan DeLucie (guitars), Nardo Andi (bass) and Brian Craig (drums), Colmenares recorded a demo in 1994, entitled “Savage Garden”. The material caught the attention of Sentinel Steel Records, who decided to release New Eden’s debut album in 1997. “Through The Make Believe” featured eleven energetic tracks inspired by the best heavy metals traditions a band could ever look up to. Compared to the likes of Blind Guardian, Agent Steel and old Fates Warning, New Eden quickly became a hot new name on the power metal scene. Unfortunately, after releasing the debut LP, vocalist Victor Vaca decided to leave the group. The remaining members prepared some new material which they recorded in 1998 with singer James Rivera (known from such bands as Helstar, Destiny’s End, Flotsam & Jetsam and Seven Witches). Although Rivera left right after the recording, the 3-track demo was enough to sign a record deal with Nuclear Blast Records to release New Eden’s second full-length album…
“Obscure Master Plan” landed in stores in 1999, bringing a much more diverse content than on the debut release. The line-up went through some serious changes, as the band welcomed three new members: guitarist Oscar Gomez, drummer Michael O. Echeveria and singer Tony Devita. Together they recorded a power metal masterpiece, capturing the sheer essence of the genre and improving it with the addition of speed and progressive metal elements. The ten tracks included on “Obscure Master Plan” range from heavy metal anthems to thrashing monstrosities and progressive elegies. Colmenares and his group managed to capture the retro sound of 80’s heavy metal and confront it with a truly modern approach, backed with some amazing guitar riffs and impressive vocal lines. Easily comparable to classic releases by Iced Earth, Symphony X or Sanctuary, “Obscure Master Plan” is definitely one of the best US power metal albums of the 90s.
After releasing their second LP, New Eden’ line-up went through a complete makeover, leaving only Colmenares as the original members. The new musicians were Tim Thomas on guitars, Mike Duran on bass, Jimmy Schultz on drums and ex-Steel Prophet vocalist Rick Mythiasin, replaceing Devita. The group returned in 2003, releasing their third full-length album “Stagnant Progression” and again proving that their power metal formula works like a charm. The European version of “Stagnant Progression” featured three exclusive bonus tracks from 1999, still with Devita on vocals.
Currently New Eden is working on their fourth LP, which is to be entitled “Solving for X” and as the band claims, it will “push the boundaries of traditional power metal”. In the meantime, feel free to experience one of the group’s finest releases – if you’re a true power metal fan, you can’t go wrong with “Obscure Master Plan”!!
