Steel Prophet is one of the few bands who didn’t give up on their way to success and patiently trained to improve their skills with each next release. Today a power metal icon, Steel Prophet managed to overcome all the obstacles and reach their goal, blessing the metal scene with a handful of unique and unforgettable albums. Metal Mind Productions presents the exclusive re-release of 3 Steel Prophet’s albums: “Dark Hallucinations”, “Genesis” and “Book Of The Dead”.|
"Dark Hallucinations" (1999) is one of their finest works to date, showing the band at the peak of their musical skills. With this album Steel Prophet ultimately proved that their place is among power metal legends such as Iron Maiden or Fates Warning. Lyrically, "Dark Hallucinations" was a concept album, based on the book "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury. The unique atmosphere of a world stripped from beauty and love lingers in each song, drowning the listener in a sea of dark melancholy. The final track on the album is an amazing cover version of "The Apparition" by one of Steel Prophet's heroes - Fates Warning.
"Genesis" (2000) is the compilation album containing all tracks off Steel Prophet's first demo, as well as additional cover tunes recorded over the years. All the amps and drums were in the same room and it was done almost 'live' in a couple days. The tape sold really great in Europe and can be credited with kicking off the band's career. Apart from the material from demo, "Genesis" includes cover version of tracks by bands like Accept ('Fast As A Shark'), Iron Maiden ('Gangland' & 'Ides Of March/Purgatory'), Metallica ('Fade To Black'), Judas Priest ('Dreamer, Deceiver'), Black Sabbath ('Neon Knights') or Simple Minds ('Don't You Forget About Me').
The 2001 album, "Book of the Dead" was their most versatile, complete and mature performance to date. The material from "Book of the Dead" captured the essence of all previous releases, and with it's eight songs showed all the best qualities of this dream team. The album was definitely a course in intelligent heavy metal. "Book of the Dead" enhanced and solidified the position and the popularity of Steel Prophet. The history of Steel Prophet is therefore the history of a band, which proved that with hard work, integrity, a progressive attitude, and an iron will their goals could be achieved.
Metal Mind Productions will release all three albums in a new digipak edition limited to 2000 copies each. Digitally remastered using 24-Bit process on a golden disc. The release date is set up for 15th September 2008 in Europe and 28th October 2008 in USA (via MVD).
The band was formed in 1983 in Los Angeles by guitarist Steve Kachinsky, who was at that time heavily inspired by Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. He started the group under the moniker Hard Prophet, eventually to change the name to Steel Prophet in the following years. At the beginning of their career the band released three demos: “Steel Prophet” (1986), “Visions of Force” (1988) and “Inner Ascendance” (1989; re-released in 2000 on the “Genesis” compilation album). Their first full-length release – “The Goddess Principle” - saw the light of day in 1995. Unfortunately, due to the lack of proper promotion the album was barely noticed on the metal scene. The group did not falter, however, and started working on their next offering – the “Continuum” EP – which was scheduled for 1996. A year later Steel Prophet managed to release their second LP – “Into The Void (Hallucinogenic Conception)”. The album ultimately shaped the group’s thrashy power metal style and became the first sign of the upcoming success. Soon Steel Prophet’s stubbornness was rewarded, as the acclaimed label Nuclear Blast Records contacted the band and offered them a contract.
“Dark Hallucinations” was the first album recorded for Nuclear Blast and a great success for Steel Prophet. By joining the heaviness of Nevermore and Testament with Iron Maiden’s melodic edge, the group managed to come up with the some of the most intense material in their whole career. Brilliant soloing, shredding guitars and passionate vocals made this LP a truly memorable experience. Lyrically, “Dark Hallucinations” was a concept album, based on the book “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. The unique atmosphere of a world stripped from beauty and love lingers in each song, drowning the listener in a sea of dark melancholy. The final track on the album is an amazing cover version of “The Apparition” by one of Steel Prophet’s heroes – Fates Warning. Without question, the strong musicianship and brilliant songwriting make “Dark Hallucinations” an true power metal classic…
In the following years Steel Prophet recorded five more albums – “Messiah” (2000), “Genesis” (2000), “Book of the Dead” (2001), “Unseen” (2002) and “Beware” (2004), each proving that the band is still in great shape. And while they definitely haven’t said their last word yet, feel free to take a trip back in time to experience one of the most impressive releases in power metal history.
