INTERVIEW BY MARINA

For those who still don't know you... can you make a brief history of the band?

Sure. Glen and I started Eidolon in 1993. First, we were a metal guitar-hero type band with no singer - over time we wanted to be a real band with a singer, so we found guys and made our fisrt CD in 1996, which was called "ZERO HOUR"!! We released our 2nd record in 1997, which is called "SEVEN SPIRITS" - both of these records are found on our web-site, www.eidolon-nightmareworld.com In 1998, we recorded our 3rd record, but this time we wanted to be signed to a big metal label, so lucky for us, METAL BLADE heard our new songs and offered us a multi-recording contract!! We released that material in 2000, which is called "NIGHTMARE WORLD" And now, this year we have just released our newest record - "HALLOWED APPARITION", which to me, is our best record, so far - and believe me, it is total 100% heavy metal!!!!

What are your members' history in music like?

Well, for me, I also played in a heavy metal band called INFERNAL MAJESTY, back in 1988, for 1 year - they were quite popular in parts of Europe. Glen has also played with KING DIAMOND from 1998 until 2000. Brian and Adrian played in other small metal bands, nothing major, really.

Since your first album "Zero Hour" was released five years ago, what you reached from your initial dreams?

I think "HALLOWED APPARITION" is just total HEAVY METAL!! This time, we used no keyboards, before all of our previous records have some keyboards - we just wanted to make a real heavy record, so keyboards really did not fit the music - of course, we will use keys again, but never too much.

What is the main goal you hope this new album will accomplish?

I think the main goal is for more people to know about EIDOLON!!! We really want to become more popular with fans of heavy metal, but we know this takes time - I do think that playing the festival in Germany will really help us - as many people will be at this show.

Can you tell a few comments about the songs on the CD?

Without going into great detail, all of the lyrics on the record are fictional, none of it is real stories. Musically, I must just say that I am real happy with the way the record has turned out!!!

About the artwork of the album... Did you make the cover based on the songs or did you already have a general idea in mind?

I had an idea based on "HALLOWED APPARITION", which means "HOLY GHOST". So, people think they are seeing the holy ghost coming from the sky to save them all - but really, it is the evil ghost coming to destroy them all!!!!

What kind of message do you want to pass in your lyrics? Are there favorite themes when composing lyrics?

I must say, that there is NO message of any kind in my lyrics - it is just stories about different things - but because the music is so heavy, many things that I write can be sick - I guess I watch too many horror movies!!!!! hahahahahahahaaa.

How are the composition duties shared in Eidolon?

Actually, I am the person who writes the music, lyrics, and vocal melodies for the band - allthough, they all can change certain things or vocal parts of any song!!! Glen does all the work in the studio - he is the producer, engineer, mixes the record - so as you can see, Glen and I stay very busy.

You'll be playing at the Bang Your Head Festival in Germany this year, right? So which are your expectations?

We just want to play as hard as we can, and rip people's face off with our music!! We are taking this show very seriously, so believe me, we will be prepared to destroy!!!

How would you describe a live Eidolon perfomance? Do you usually play covers in shows?

We don't play covers any more, as we have a lot of our own music to choose from - you can expect to hear lots of heavy metal music!!

How is the scene in Canada? Do you think it's getting better?

The metal scene in CANADA is getting better!!! A few years ago, it was hard to see many metal bands - but now we are seeing many more, so the future looks very good!!

What are your future plans and goals? Some plans to play in Europe?

After BANG YOUR HEAD, we will talk to Metal Blade about possibly playing a tour in Europe, but right now, it is far away, so we cannot say for sure.

OK, thanks Shawn for being so kind and for your time! Any final comments?

I would like to say thank you to all who support EIDOLON and HEAVY METAL music!!! BY THY SWORD!!!!!
