In the year of 2004, MYSTIC MOON came together with one goal in mind: play some kick-ass Epic Doom Metal! And to be quite honest, if this entirely-too-short promo is anything to judge by, these Greeks have more than achieved what they set out to do. Given the right opportunities, these guys could make huge waves in the Doom scene, landing them a spot in the immortalized cannon of Epic Doom Metal right next to CANDLEMASS, SOLITUDE AETURNUS and WHILE HEAVEN WEPT.

The fact that there are only three tracks on this beast kills me, especially since two of them serve more as an intro and outro than as songs proper. Omnia Sunt Excisanta lulls us into serenity with its softly plucked unaccompanied guitar, setting the mood for Pale Divine to kick in and Doom us to pieces. Seriously, this is one of, if not THE best Epic Doom song Ive heard all year! The riffs! The vocals! Its all so fragile, yet so strong. This track is absolutely beautiful, powerful and most importantly, Doomed. Afterwards, we are treated to another short piece in the form of Denial, which features an oppressive riff alongside a layered vocal delivery. A great way to end, but it definitely leaves you craving more.

Theres definitely resurgence in popularity of Epic Doom Metal lately. Typically, with these resurgences come a lot of new bands, which eventually water down the style and stagnate. Somehow, that is not the case this time around this new wave of Epic Doom is just as powerful as the last and shows that the genre is more than alive and kickingits alive and kicking ass! MYSTIC MOON is no exception and I eagerly await their full-length. (Online February 1, 2006)
