First of all, what a good production we have here on this record from Hybrid! In the promo-sheet for this record it says this is similar to Nevermore, Exodus and Testament. I can definitely agree with them, but there also is a taste of Power Metal here I feel. The vocals suspected me to be more in a more growling type of vocals, but instead it was clean like power/progressive metal-type of vocals.

The melodies here are very good. Many variations and good riffs make this record nice to listen to.

This is a progressive metal-record that never gets boring. Many of similar records have a tendency to get boring, maybe because of to many solo-acts or long periods without vocals, BUT THIS IS NOT A FACT HERE! Here we get quality-metal from the beginning to the end. It has the good melodies, great vocals, the guitars and drumming that this kind of record needs to be a great one. I hope this band will be more popular, because then we maybe could see their music in the record shops here in Norway.

After two demo efforts it was the right time for Hybrid to unleash their debut full-length release "The Will to Create" through Secret Port Records. One more album that proves and justifies a series of things, but basically it shouts out loud that metal suits Greece and in addition, that the Greek bands have learned at last how things work in order to progress and not just remain "band with great potential". Why am I telling you all these? Well let me point out something I usually refer to with a few words at the end of my reviews, but it's of great importance and usually effects my judgement. I'm talking about the production, an aspect where Hybrid gets an A+ with this release. Crystal clear, dynamic, polished, harsh when needed, but most of all appropriate for their genre. By far the best production I've heard recently from a Greek band.

Musically speaking, Hybrid is into modern Power Metal in the vein of Nevermore. In fact, Nevermore is their major influence, together with Metallica and a bit of Iced Earth and maybe Megadeth. The guitars let off a bunch of hammering aggressive riffs, dressed here and there with clever solo fillings, dynamic and impressive passages and the rhythm section fires at will a burst of sonic bullets just like a machine gun. I'm a little skeptic though when it comes to the vocals. I have no problem with their clarity, energy and the like, but there are moments that really seem out of the step, not fitting in the whole project. All in all though Hybrid has delivered a really nice album, with a title that states exactly their intentions. The cd is distributed by Secret Port Records (www.secretport.com) for 10 € together with a promo flyer and a patch with the band's logo.
What a great offer!!!

Η ελληνική σκηνή έχει πάρει την ανιούσα και δύσκολα θα αγνοηθεί, τουλάχιστον μέσα στο τρέχον έτος. Το ξεκίνημα των Rotting Christ μπορεί να χαρακτηριστεί καταλυτικό, μιας και τους ακολούθησαν μπάντες με πολύ ποιοτικές κυκλοφορίες, παρόλο που εντάσσονται σε διαφορετικό μεταλλικό χώρο. Η τελευταία από αυτές ανήκει στους Hybrid και το όνομά τους αντιπροσωπεύει απόλυτα και τη μουσική τους.

Επηρεασμένοι από την αμερικανική σχολή του thrash και του power, το μουσικό υβρίδιο που παράγουν αποτελεί τους καρπούς σκληρής δουλειάς 8 χρόνων και ταυτόχρονα μία από τις καλύτερες φετινές κυκλοφορίες παγκοσμίως. Βαρύγδουπη και υπερβολική δήλωση; Πιθανώς, λόγω του ότι δεν είναι εφικτό ν' ακούμε τα πάντα, εκείνα όμως που πέφτουν στα χέρια μας και το αξίζουν, έχουν κάθε λόγο να προβάλλονται κι ενίοτε να γνωρίζουν και την αποθέωση.

Το Α και το Ω σε τέτοιες «απόπειρες» είναι η παραγωγή και ο κος Θ. Ζήρας έχει διαπράξει εγκληματικές ενέργειες εις βάρος της προχειρότητας και της μετριότητας. Το «άψογο» ακούγεται κοινότυπο αλλά είναι η τέλεια λέξη να περιγράψει το αποτέλεσμα των προσπαθειών, ικανοτήτων και συνθέσεων της μπάντας. Την έκπληξη συναντάμε στα φωνητικά, όπου τα αναμενόμενα heavy αντικαθίστανται από περίσσια μελωδικά με πιο prog χροιά, αν και ορισμένες στιγμές αναζήτησα και λίγο περισσότερο όγκο σε αυτά. Το "Ruins Of Mine" είναι το τέλειο παράδειγμα κομματιού που συνδυάζει τη μελωδικότητα της φωνής / μουσικής χωρίς να χάνει σε επιθετικότητα και ίσως και η κορυφαία στιγμή του άλμπουμ.

Κλείνοντας, κρίνω απαραίτητο να σας παραπέμψω στην ακρόαση ορισμένων κομματιών μέσω του www.myspace.com/hybridgr, κυρίως για να πάρετε μια πρώτη γεύση από τη δουλειά των Hybrid και δευτερευόντως να αναρωτηθείτε σε ποιο line up του φετινού Rockwave θα κόλλαγαν περισσότερο: Στην ημέρα με τους Iced Earth ή στην τελευταία με τους Metallica; Ή μήπως θα ήταν καλύτερα να τους βλέπαμε support στην επόμενη επίσκεψη των Nevermore; Ωραία διλήμματα...
