Fresh install of Win7 (refurbished) and updates won’t work, no matter which MS FixIt tools you try? Put this into a .bat file and run it as Administrator:

net stop wuauserv
net stop CryptSvc
ren %windir%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.old
ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution sold.old
net start CryptSvc
net start wuauserv
